So, how do I pray?

We are all told that prayer is powerful and believe me it is, it’s our way to communicate with a loving God who wants to be an ongoing part of our lives.  I’ve heard a lot of people asking “So, how do I pray?” and in this blog I’ll share a way of praying I heard about that helps to make it more balanced, as a true message to God, and less rambling and then tailoring off because you are distracted by what else is going on in your mind.  Believe me, I know it can happen

What I heard and use is ACTS.  We’ve heard about the Book of Acts which is what makes this easy to remember:

  • A = Affection – Start by expressing your joy and love to the Lord, what better way to open a message to someone else

  • C = Confession – The Lord, our God, is the most holy and if you read the Bible you’ll see that when we confess our sins we are forgiven for them. Carrying them around is like carrying a heavy bag, put it down.

  • T = Thanksgiving – I heard a saying once “Gratitude changes the Attitude” and it is so right.  When you fill your heart with Thanksgiving then it melts away the negative and renews it with joy

  • S = Supplication – This means the action of asking for something earnestly or humbly. This is the time to put in your request but hopefully after Affection, Confession and Thanksgiving that request might not be so self-centred.

There are many ways to pray, and not too, so the best advice is to be humble of heart and get started.  It is after all, your time with God.
